Shorts I (1964-68)

This program, which runs for 67 minutes, brings together seven films without dialogue: POSLEDNÍ TRIK PANA SCHWARZEWALDEA A PANA EDGARA (The Last Trick, 1964) Two magicians, Mr. Schwarzwald and Mr. Edgar, try to outdo each other with elaborate tricks, which leads to a violent ending. SPIEL MIT STEINEN (A 1965) At the top of every hour, stones fall from a wall clock and form mosaics and figures. Each time, the stones become larger and more colorful, and the ballet of the resulting mosaics becomes more artistic. J.S. BACH – FANTASIA IN G MINOR (1965) A man plays the eponymous Bach piece on the organ, accompanied by images of stone walls with cracks and holes that grow and shrink, interrupted by pictures of doors and windows with wire mesh. RAKVIČKÁRNA (Punch and Judy, 1966) Two puppets, Punch and Judy, fight tooth and nail for custody of a live guinea pig. ET CETERA (1966) A small animated figure learns how to use a whip, a pair of wings, and a house. HISTORIA NATURAE (1967) An eight-part portrait of different animal species, accompanied by various styles of music. Each animation combines drawings, images, real animals, and animated skeletons. BYT (The Flat, 1968) A man is trapped in an eerie apartment where nothing seems to obey the laws of nature.
